New Rap Artist: Style, Lyrics and God

Every now and then the rap game sees truly unique new talent emerge from the ‘hood.  The natural ability to flow, raise consciousness, and rhythmically assault your senses.  This is exactly who Greenville, South Carolina rapper Alpoko Don, aka Randrickas Young is, and he is bringing the complete package. A rap voice with an edge, beats, and lyrics that go straight to your head. You know he stays blunted but he is just a product of his environment in that sense, but his comfort zone synthesizing songs off the cuff is sorely missed.

We have not seen a natural flow like this since Biggie and Tupac! I really do not count Jay Z because he did not really blow up until after their murders. He was arguably always in the third place in the rap game while Biggie and Tupac were alive. Alpoko Don will change this because he raps from the heart and puts his soul into his lyrics.

Listening to him flow on “da porch” as he says, was simply captivating and at 30 years old he has enough life experience to put into his songs. Using the porch banister to create his beats, easy on the ear rifts, and a sick hook make this song a hit as is! To hear his understanding of The Most High was stunning and beautiful.

Although he is surrounded by the drug game and lives in the streets, he knows The Most High is the only way to salvation. He clearly understands the hustler life is opposed to The Most High yet he still ask for forgiveness. His Spiritual influence apparently came from time spent at West Greenville’s Antioch Baptist Church.

“Some of the hardest rappers that people are hearing now are coming to me, but I have to say what I need to say before I focus on that,” he says. “But I’m about to put a whole new twist on whoever I’m behind.”

We are living in an age now where rappers like Jay Z, Lil’ Wayne and Kanye shower the masses we demonic motifs in all their videos. It will be refreshing to see Alpoko Don spit rhymes about the True and Living God. We can only hope he is not brainwashed like so many rap/pop artist today and forfeits his soul for an empty promise. After an 8 year prison bid he is ready to transform the rap game with his style. Let’s just hope his internal GPS is loaded by Jesus. This guy has enough talent to do it his way.
