The Cabin in the Woods: Monsters and Demons

The Cabin in the Woods: Monsters and Demons

I am admittingly late in the game on this one but I was so impressed with the creativity and ancient glimpse into the past regarding the giant gods of the Earth.  The horror film “The Cabin in the Woods” started out strangely as a covert underground Government sponsored murder operation. You were suspended in disbelief why the Government would invest billions of dollars to target 5 unsuspecting college folks for extermination. I do not want to tell you too much about the movie in case you have not seen it.

What fascinated me about this movie was the connection to ancient evil which requires a blood sacrifice. The movie evokes almost every horror movie villain ever imagined but linking it to an ancient evil was brilliant. Any of the horror you see in this movie pales in comparison to the power of the Ancient Ones. Many ancient cultures like the Sumerians, Babylonians, and the Greeks all reference giant gods which required a human blood sacrifice to keep the peace.

The movie also presents the case some of the Satanic murders in the world are still happening to appease the gods! If this is not art mimicking reality then I do not have back fat. Another insight that riddled my brain was these giant ancient gods are so powerful yet they fear “The Most High!” How big is “The Most High?” It is an awesome movie and technology has advanced to the state where anything imagined can be created in film.

When it comes to excitement and shock value this movie is a home-run. It also provides an entertaining insight into ancient evil creatures and demons spoke of from the days of yore. This is the type of movie which makes you want to get into shape so you run for miles if need be. I will give one-spoiler to you because it made me laugh so hard and rewind many times. Near the end of the movie watch the wolf scene and remember even a Glock can make a ravenous werewolf run away.

I was excited to learn there is a sequel for this movie coming out and this time I will not miss it. I was thoroughly entertained and look forward to it unfolding on the silver-screen. BTW, the scene in the picture for this post is a tiny part from the movie. It will not ruin anything if you have not seen it. Just turn off the lights, pop some popcorn, bolt the doors, and keep your Glock locked.
