Jackie Hill: Spits JIGA-BOO (State of the Church)

Poet Jackie Hill exposes the dilemma of the church today with poetry skills that electrify the soul. She captures the spirit or the lack thereof in the church today. She mixed metaphors, catch phrases, basic human logic, and Scripture — and ‘spit-it’, in a poetry style which only she owns. Her words embody everything that is wrong with the church today — especially the mega-church.

Images of Joel Osteen, Eddie Long, and T.D. Jakes flooded my mind and the tens of thousands of “worshipers” who pack their churches like sardines every week. I recently watched T.D. Jakes accept $1 million dollars from Tyler Perry for his “Youth Development Center” and I asked myself why would a multi-millionaire need million dollar donation from another millionaire?

Do you know who Jesus had the biggest problem with during his short-time on this earth? It was not the: government, organized crime, nor prostitution. When it came to government Jesus said, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s”. He turned many people away from prostitution and crime while directing them to spiritual enlightenment.

The biggest (and deadliest) opposition to Jesus was the church or synagogues. Jesus had epic spiritual rap battles with pharisees who were the “holy-men” of the people. The manifestation of the Word threatened the collection plates and tithes of the synagogues and He taught the people — the kingdom is within. The intercession between man and God is none other than Jesus Christ — not the priest in the church who many confess their sins!

The below quote is from the 1 Timothy chapter 3 and the title is “Qualifications for Overseers” and it describes the characteristics of being the leader of the church.

1 Timothy 3:3

He must not be a heavy drinker or be violent. He must be gentle, not quarrelsome, and not love money.

This Scripture stands out because it illustrates the lifestyles of these pastors is in direct conflict with the Most High.  All of these pastors who have profited off the Word represent spiritual stagnation. How can they claim to be caretakers of the Word when they embody the very lifestyle prohibited by the Word? They even justify their gross wealth off the coin of the people!

A person should never feel guilty for being rich, as God views that as an insult. Instead, he should praise God for blessing him with the money.

Joel Osteen

Church has turned into grand entertainment and the celebration of personalities — not the spiritual teachings needed to fight the good fight. The people have failed the church and allowed the T.D. Jakes and Joel Osteens of the world to prosper. The people have failed to read their own Bibles and call out these false preachers. We have been given a book which not only tells us how to live but how to test everyone, everything, and even the church. I am going to brush my teeth to this poem every morning!
