What did the Sphinx Look Like Before Napoleon Shot the Nose and Lips Off?

The Sphinx has been presented as a riddle and Edgar Cayce increased the mystery with the Hall of Records being located under the paw of the Sphinx. The discussion on what the Sphinx actually looked like is no longer a hot topic. The unblemished sculpting of the Sphinx would end debates on the ethnicity of the Egyptians although Herodotus already stated they were a negroid people like the ones from sub saharan Africa.

Have you ever noticed many of the ancient Egyptian sculptures of the Pharaohs and the royalty always have the nose and lips marred? After seeing the true image of the Sphinx sketched in 1798 by Vivant Denon it will leave no doubt to the ethnicity of the ancient Egyptians. Vivant was not only an eye witness but among many other talents, an artist.

Dominique Vivant, Baron Denon (4 January 1747 – 27 April 1825) was a French artist, writer, diplomat, author, and archaeologist. He was appointed as the first Director of the Louvre museum by Napoleon after the Egyptian campaign of 1798–1801, and is commemorated in the Denon Wing of the modern museum. His two-volume Voyage dans la basse et la haute Egypte ("Journey in Lower and Upper Egypt"), 1802, was the foundation of modern Egyptology.

Soon after Vivant’s sketch was complete Napoleon ordered the nose and lips shot off the Sphinx! Why would Napoleon do a thing like that? Why was it so important to hide the true identity of the ancient Egyptians? Napoleon made sure to commandeer the scientific archives and other inventions of the ancient Egyptians without giving credit to the true authors. Vivant clearly captured the facial features of the Sphinx and they are clearly Negroid as stated by the eye witness Herodotus.

Seeing the Sphinx with distinct negroid features establishes the ancient Egyptians were in fact a black culture. Most likely the sons and daughters of the Sumerian culture who referred to themselves as the Saggiga, which translates to the “black faced” or “black headed people.” This also explains why Joseph was directed to hide baby Jesus in Egypt; in order to blend in with the population. Vivant’s eye witness sketch of the Sphinx is not well known to the general population.

I also do not recall learning about Vivant’s sketch of the Sphinx in high school. It was not until college I learned of this because of my minor. There appears to be a concerted effort to suppress the identity of ancient people including their technological and scientific secrets. We must continue to pursue truth in order to rediscover our ancient past as a collective people.

We are lucky to have this sketch by Vivant because it dispels many of the established falsehoods. Like aliens built the pyramids when the technology is clearly in the grasp of the human mind. The ancients left monuments which we can all learn from but the pursuit of truth is paramount. No more shooting the noses and mouths off ancient statues. We must embrace the truth of the past because it is the right thing to do.
