Kevin Hart, recently released an apology video on Instagram for something he did or did not do. There was also a mention of extortion to keep a video of the “something he did” out of the public forum. He stated he put himself in a situation where “bad things” could happen and they did. Kevin Hart, was being accountable for his actions and contritely told the world he hurt the people closes to him. This is a teachable moment for Believers who practice free forgiveness because that is actually not a Biblical teaching.
Luke 17:3-4, instructs, ” 3 So watch yourselves. “If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. 4 Even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying ‘I repent,’ you must forgive them.” There are many Believers who make excuses for people and forgive them without repentance. This is actually classified as enabling and in my opinion you become an accessory to sin.
Luke 17:3-4 King James Version (KJV) 3 Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him. 4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
I know many alternative media “self” appointed watchmen who lack the spiritual fortitude to publicly repent for their actions as Kevin Hart did. I know some who fleeced elderly widows for precious metals, some who lie to drive traffic to their radio programs, some who falsify their resumes to gain trust, and some who run mega churches and teach hybrid money/gospel doctrines. None of them ever publicly repented. It takes courage to say when you are wrong.
I recently listened to an Asian YouTube minister teach Christians not to judge and everybody is a “brother.” What he demonstrated was a lack of understanding of the teachings in Christ. We are charged to judge all things in the Spirit of Truth. That includes anyone who falls under 2 Corinthians 2:17, where it says, “Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.”
There is a distinction here that must be made to differentiate those who are sincerely sharing the Gospels and those who are sharing them while profiting. This Asian YouTube minister teaches with great hubris, but clearly missed the mark. The Bible, teaches in 1 Corinthians 2:15, “15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments.” We are called to judge based on the teachings in the Word.
I say this all of the time and not enough. Read the Word for yourselves and this way you will know when someone is wrong. You do not have to take my word on it, but surely you need to take His. Forgiveness, is for those who repent. Do you forgive a pedophile while they still molest children? Or do you forgive them after they repent and cease the act of molesting children? Some where a long the line men like this Asian YouTube minister believe Christians are so supposed to be blind pushovers.
Jesus would treat Kevin Hart just like he did Mary Magdalene and say now go away and sin no more. At least Kevin Hart swallowed his pride and publicly apologized. This does not erase what he did, but certainly gains forgiveness in the Spirit of Truth. Stay woke.
