The Disciples asked Jesus what would be the signs of His return and the last thing He said is, “There will be earthquakes in diverse places.” In Luke 21:11 earthquakes were qualified as “great” earthquakes meaning they will be higher than 6.0 and the Richter scale. Papua New Guinea was just hit with a 7.5 on the Richter scale and that is huge. Sadly, it is reported 30 people lost their lives in this great earthquake. Now we must prepare for aftershocks and perhaps even sinkholes. Papua New Guinea sits on the “Ring of Fire,” a line of seismic faults encircling the Pacific that has frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

We can expect more of these great earthquakes culminating in the greatest earthquake the Earth has ever experienced. We are in the phase of last day prophecy known as the “Beginning of the Sorrows” or as other ancient cultures call it “birth pains.” The Earth will continue to quake, flood, hurricane, and sinkhole until the Tribulation begins. If you read Revelation 6:19, you will know what to expect when this happens. It is unfortunate so much life will be lost, but I must emphasize it will not be the end of all life. We are at the beginning of a new Age and history has told us life will go in so do not lose hope!
