Every now and then someone captures the Internet’s attention with aplomb and Bishop Bullwinkle is the latest growing sensation. In other words his single, “Hell 2 Da Naw Naw” is going viral and the added sweetness is he is . . . well a Pastor in the church. This rising Alabama artist looks like a grandpa or even a great granddaddy! What makes his song special is, it is a lament to the situation in the Black communities; where materialism, illegal money, degradation of women, high school drop out rate, and incarceration is plaguing the Black male.

Years ago I read the research of Dr. Andrew Hacker, who penned, “Two Nations: Black and White, Separate, Hostile, Unequal.” In this meticulous analysis he came to the conclusion (also based on Census analysis) the Black male is an endangered species. Bishop Bullwinkle addresses all of these points lyrically. It is no secret to the elders in the Black communities they are watching the decay of their culture in real time. Bishop Bullwinkle is lending his unique soulful voice to shedding light on these very issues.
